Charlotte Plank

2024 has already been a breakthrough year for 22 year old singer, songwriter and producer Charlotte Plank, playing at Glastonbury Festival 4 times this year and landing her first ever BRIT Award nomination for Song of the Year.

Based in South of England (although she was born in Australia), Charlotte was brought up on her parents’ eclectic music tastes; she grew up on dancefloors and at festivals, accompanying her mum as they experienced live music of all genres.

Fast forward to today and Plank is quickly becoming seen as one of Generation Z’s champions of dance music, fusing her love of drum n bass, alternative-pop, and rave. and more with nuanced, subtle and honest lyricism, often taken from her own personal experiences. This humanism – paired with the energetic, underground sounds she loves, results in a wholly unique approach. Her recent single ‘Nightshift’ is a perfect example. It samples Groove Armada’s now-iconic 2001 track ‘Superstylin’’ – a track Charlotte heard often when growing up, and felt it deserved a re-introduction to younger generations that may not know it. Getting approval from one of dance music’s most revered duo’s isn’t common practise – but ‘Nightshift’ is a clear homage to a great track which moves it in a new direction also, which clearly appealed to Groove Armada. The track’s lyrics reference the vibe felt between Charlotte and her friends while leaving for a night out – the anticipation, the energy, the chaos and the camaraderie.

All this sets the scene for what Charlotte has planned next. Fan favourites when she performs live, such as Ellen, Stargirl and Happy Ever Afters are still yet to see official releases, such is the anticipation for what Charlotte Plank is up to in the studio. Of course, all this solo work sits alongside her beloved body of work as a vocalist and featured artist with other revered acts, too. The Rudimental singles Green & Gold and Dancing Is Healing – both of which find Charlotte taking lead on vocals – have both been summer anthems, chart hits and massive streaming success stories this year. UK top 40 single ‘Rave Out’, made with esteemed producers Turno and Skepsis, is another such beloved release featuring Charlotte’s melodies and vocals.

Unsurprisingly, Charlotte’s social media following has quickly amounted to over 100,000 total followers, and she has more than 2.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify – pretty striking numbers for a very young artist, songwriter and performer already garnering hit pop-crossover records and plenty more to come in the near future. Charlotte Plank is undoubtedly undoubtedly the one to watch in UK dance music for 2025 and beyond.
