Tyla’s emotionally rich music began when she was just 12, penning songs in her diary, which led to writing and singing more seriously as a high schooler. Looking ahead, Tyla is preparing her self-titled debut album for a March release, the crowning achievement of her years-long ascent.
In 2023, Tyla vaulted to the forefront of popular culture on her own terms. Her smash hit single, “Water,” became an unequivocal phenomenon, sparking the TikTok “Water Challenge” with 5 million global “creates” to go with 10 billion views and counting. Generating hundreds of millions of streams, “Water” peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to #1 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart. It went on to earn Tyla her first-career GRAMMY Award, for “Best African Music Performance,” and help her make Billboard history as the highest-charting African female soloist in Hot 100 history. She delivered a powerhouse performance of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and earned critical acclaim from Billboard, Cosmopolitan, i-D Magazine, Insider, Office, Rolling Stone, UPROXX, and more. Her latest single, “Truth Or Dare,” has continued her momentum. Its NABIL-directed music video has been viewed over seven million times in under a month since release. Tyla’s performance of the song on the finale of NBC’s The Voice has been viewed over a million times, and she also performed the bubbling hit on the network’s famed year-end program, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, known as an important rite of passage for artists en route to superstardom. TYLA, the global star’s first studio album, released March 22 2024.
